UPDATED: Listening to sad bastard music with Dan Hamilton

KTRV Channel 12 anchor Dan Hamilton, who turns out is a Herb Alpert fan and used to play trumpet, stopped by the Laid Off Loser Fortress of Solitude today to do a piece for tonight's Fox News at Nine, which, true to the name, airs at 9 p.m.

He interviewed me about Laid Off Loser and we listened to Belle and Sebastian on the hi-fi. Neither one of us danced.

  1. I have to say that the only reason I bothered to watch the news tonight was because I saw a "preview"(if you could call it that) of the story covering you and your new website(which is what brought me here).

As a journalist student in High school, and having recently talked to a sports columnist at The Idaho Statesman, I sadly see a dim future for a newspaper-related field of study.

However, despite the state of the economy and the fact that people are losing jobs left and right, I did find a lot of humor in your reference to Edward R. Murrow. :]

Just thought I'd share that small bit with you. I figured you're bored to tears being laid off and I'd honestly rather sit here and type this comment on your web blog rather than doing my latin homework any day.

I apologize for the length of this comment, however insightful it may have pretended to be.

    Regards and good luck,
    A fellow journalist

  2. Well, I hope you're considering some alternative career paths. There's still a future for journalism, but it never has been lucrative and the industry as you know is in serious flux at the moment.

Even if you loathe the idea of "selling out" to PR — and believe me, I was there at one point in my life; times have changed — consider taking some PR college courses beyond Public Relations 101.

If you enjoy writing for writing's sake, however, and you have the time to invest in it, consider starting a blog. They're free, easy to set up and quite addictive once you get started on it. And a blog is a good way to get your voice heard, even if your mom is the only one reading.

    Best of luck,
    Chad

  3. You may or may not be aware of this, but if you still worked at the brown palace on Curtis you would be planning a week of unpaid leave. More time to listen to music!

  4. I don't envy the folks who are still there for sure — less money, more work. If you're one of them, you have my condolences. I usually don't get out of my pajamas until midday now.

  5. Wow. You have real presence onscreen. I was going to have your baby until you dragged the discourse down with the obligatory Belle and Sebastian reference. Now I'm illin'.
